Sharon Prero
Soprano
Before moving to Queensland to study a Bachelor of Music
Degree, Sharon was a flautist with the Tasmanian Symphony
Orchestra having studied Flute and Voice at the Tasmanian
Conservatorium of Music.
Winning the Dame Mabel Brookes Fellowship with Opera
Foundation Australia, Sharon moved to Melbourne and
performed the role of Mabel in The Pirates of Penzance, Mimi
in La Bohème and Bertha in The Barber of Seville with the
Victoria State Opera.
She has also appeared many times with State Opera of South
Australia performing First Lady in The Magic Flute and
Bertha in The Barber of Seville. In 1994, Sharon performed
the role of Carlotta in the Sydney season of The Phantom of
the Opera for Cameron Mackintosh.
Concert engagements include Mahler’s Symphony No. 2, Vaughan
Williams’ Sea Symphony, Warana Festival’s Opera under the
Stars with Queensland Symphony Orchestra, Beethoven’s Ninth
Symphony, Vaughan Williams Sinfonia Antarctica and Handel’s
Messiah.
Recordings include soprano soloist in Beethoven’s Ninth
Symphony with the Opera Australia Chorus and the Tasmanian
Symphony Orchestra - released by ABC Classics in 2002.
Recently, she sang a programme of Handel with the Tasmanian
Symphony Orchestra and appeared as soprano soloist in
Messiah and as Musetta in OzOpera’s touring production of La
Boheme. In 2006, Sharon Prero will sing Kate Pinkerton in
Madama Butterfly and cover The Countess in Le Nozze di
Figaro and Alice Ford in Falstaff for Opera Australia.
